Washington State University (WSU) will host a lecture via web conference on assessing the significance of equine heart murmurs in the field on Nov. 6 at 6:00 p.m. PST (9:00 p.m. EST). Cristobal Navas, LV, MS, Dipl. ACVIM, instructor in equine medicine at WSU, will present the webinar.

According to the WSU website, the seminar is directed to help practitioners answer the following questions:

  • What is causing a particular murmur?
  • Which murmurs are a problem or likely to become one vs. which ones are physiologic or unlikely to be relevant?
  • What are the risks and which horses need further evaluation and treatment?
  • Which diagnostics should I request/perform to be able to treat the horse and/or advice the client?

"The seminar will focus on the evaluation of horses by the field veterinarian," the website read. "Some aspects of cardiac therapies or more advanced diagnostic techniques (echocardiograms, resting or exercising electrocardiograms) will be briefly explained with the goal of allowing the field veterinarian to better diagnose cardiac problems and advice their clients."

Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions via text chat
