A man was sound asleep in bed, his wife in the bathroom, when a horse came crashing through their home in Zachary, La. The 1,500-pound horse made tornado-like circles inside and left behind a huge mess.

The house is in Audubon Court, a newly-developed subdivision in Zachary. None of the people who live nearby have horses, but there are a few farms close by.

Fire and police officials think the horse might have seen his reflection in the window, then he got spooked and darted inside. Zachary’s deputy fire chief, Pokey Anders, said that the “fortunate thing is that the occupants of the house weren’t hurt in any way. Of course, they’re emotionally distraught, thinking a tornado hit their home, to look up and wake up to see a horse standing in their bedroom.” Zachary police said they’re still looking into who owns the horse, but veterinarians on the scene found no tags of identification.

The horse had been injured to the extent that it had to be euthanatized
