American Farrier's Association to Provide Hoof Care at WEG Test Events

The American Farrier's Association (AFA) will provide hoof care services for the test events leading up to the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

As the Official Farriers for the games, the AFA has extended its partnership to provide hoof care services for a series of test events beginning in 2009. The test events, called "The Kentucky Cup," will allow organizers to prepare for the world championships coming to the Kentucky Horse Park in 2010. (Read more about the test events).

"The AFA is very pleased to provide hoof care services for The Kentucky Cup test events," said Dick Fanguy, an AFA Certified Journeyman Farrier and President of the AFA. "Our members look forward with great excitement to serving the sport horse industry, both at the test events and the 2010 Games."

The test competitions begin in July of 2009 and run through the 2010 Rolex Three-Day Event. All events will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park. The AFA will manage the hoof care needs for all test events.

The American Farrier's Association is a non-profit organization with a mission to further the professional development of farriers, to provide leadership and resources for the benefit of the farrier industry, and to improve the welfare of the horse through continuing farrier education.

The 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, to be held at the Kentucky Horse Park, are the world championships of the eight equestrian disciplines recognized by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) and are held every four years. The Games have never before been held outside of Europe, nor have all eight disciplines previously been held together at a single site--both firsts that will be achieved at the Kentucky Horse Park. The 2010 Games are expected to have a statewide economic impact of $150 million. It is anticipated that more than 600,000 spectators will attend the 16-day competition.
