There still have not been any confirmed U.S. equine West Nile Virus cases in 2000. (August 24)

New York City Health Commissioner Neal L. Cohen, M.D., announced Aug. 22 that new areas of the City have been scheduled for spraying in response to new findings reported to the City Health Department by the New York State Department of Health.


New findings include 8 new infected birds and 8 new infected mosquito pools: on Staten Island, 6 mosquito pools: 3 from Tottenville, 2 from Clove Lake, 1 from Westerleigh; and 2 dead crows: 1 from Westerleigh and 1 from Midland Beach; in Manhattan, a dead crow from Inwood Hill Park and a dead crow and mosquito pool from Central Park; in the Bronx, a crow from Claremont Park, a house finch from Throgs Neck and a live house sparrow from Orchard Beach; in Queens a mosquito pool from Alley Pond Park; and, in Brooklyn, a crow from Fort Hamilton.
