The International Military Sports Council (CISM) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the world governing body for equestrian sport.

The MOU was signed by CISM President Colonel AbdulHakeem AlShino (BRN) and FEI President Ingmar de Vos at the Olympic Equestrian Center in Deodoro, Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

Formed in 1948, the CISM is one of the largest multi-disciplinary organizations in the world and oversees sporting events for the armed forces of its 134 member countries. The CISM annually organizes more than 20 military world championships for approximately 30 different sports, continental and regional competitions, and the Military World Games. The CISM also invests significantly in sport for peace activities, with solidarity one of their main initiatives.

The CISM includes four equestrian disciplines: jumping, eventing, dressage, and endurance. The last Military World Endurance Championship (2nd edition) took place in 2014 at the Dubai Equestrian Club, in the United Arab Emirates, and attracted a field of more than 70 participants
