Pennsylvania Police Seek Leads in Amish Horse Shooting

Police are hoping the public can help identify whoever is responsible for shooting a horse pulling a buggy containing several passengers.

Lancaster County, Penn., police are hoping the public can help identify whoever is responsible for shooting and killing a horse pulling a buggy containing several passengers.

East Lampeter Township Police Department Lt. Robin Weaver said that on Nov. 24, an Amish family was travelling home, presumably from a church service, in a horse-drawn buggy when they were passed by a car traveling the same direction. As the car passed, the two adults and three children inside the buggy heard a cracking sound, Weaver said.

“They attributed the noise to a firecracker,” Weaver said.

When the owner later removed the horse's harness, he noticed blood emanating from the animal's mouth. A veterinarian was called to the scene, but the horse collapsed and died before the veterinarian arrived, Weaver said
