Because of New York state budget problems, the drug testing laboratory at Cornell University might close and move to another institution, according to an article on cornellsun.com. The laboratory tests horse blood and uring samples for potential illegal drugs.

A spokesperson at Cornell's Equine Drug Testing Program in the article said the state is years behind in providing funding to either repair the current drug testing laboratory or provide a new building. In the article it noted if the state does not budget for improvements on the drug testing lab building the College of Veterinary Medicine will not renew its contract. Only a land-grant university, such as Cornell, can be the location of the drug testing laboratory.

Morrisville State College is one of the institutions that would like to host the equine drug testing probram.

The state's 2010 budget will be released on Jan. 19, and other cuts are expected for the university, according to the article
