A Georgia man is facing charges after a foal was found dead on his Murray County property. A pair of allegedly maltreated adult horses were also found there.

A report from the Murray County Sheriff’s Office said law enforcement personnel responded to a call about maltreated horses on John Frank Palmer’s property on April 5. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult horse tied to a tree who appeared to be malnourished and in need of veterinary treatment for sores on the back and both sides, the report said. Another allegedly maltreated horse was also found.

A “very small” dead foal was found lying on barbed wire rounds; the animal appeared to be have been dead for about two days, the report said.
