Indiana Horses Removed From Flood Zone

A group of horses used in a therapeutic riding program were rescued this week after flood waters inundated their pasture in Brownsburg, Indiana.

Indianapolis Fire Department Media Relations Battalion Chief Rita L. Reith said the owners of Natural Valley Ranch and Therapeutic Riding Center contacted the department on Dec. 27 seeking help after their horses became stranded in a wooded area following heavy rains.

On arrival, fire department personnel discovered 13 horses in need of rescue. Another three horses had been brought to higher ground by the owners, Reith said.

Reith said firefighters—along with personnel from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department, the Hendricks County Emergency Animal Rescue Task Force, and the Morgantown Fire Department—led the animals to safety
