Rutgers Horse Management Seminar Scheduled for Feb. 10

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension, in cooperation with the Rutgers Equine Science Center and New Jersey Horse Council, has scheduled a horse management seminar for Feb. 10, 2013. This year’s topic is equine stress and transportation.

The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Rutgers Cook Campus Center.

Featured speakers and topics include:

  • "Stress vs. Distress in Our Horses"–Sarah Ralston, VMD, PhD, Dipl. ACVN, of Rutgers University
  • "Relieving Transport Stress in Horses"–Ted Friend, MS, PhD, of Texas A&M University
  • "Unintended Consequences for Slaughter Horse Welfare in the United States and European Union"– Ted Friend, MS, PhD, of Texas A&M University
  • "Handling a Trailering Emergency"–Michael Fugaro, VMD, Dipl. ACVN, of Centenary College and Mountain Pointe Equine Veterinary
  • "Domestic and International Equine Transport Regulations"–Leslie Bulaga, DVM, of the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

The cost is $50 for adults and $20 for children, students, or seniors if the registration form is post marked on or before Jan. 25, 2012. After that, rates increase to $65 and $35, respectively. A continental breakfast and box lunch are included in the program fee
