Animal welfare authorities in Spartanburg County, S.C., are seeking the owner of a horse found standing unattended on a street near Duncan earlier this week.

County Environmental Enforcement Director James Nelson, II said that a Duncan City Police officer discovered the 3-year-old Palomino stallion standing on a roadway on Nov. 20. Spartanburg County Animal Control personnel took custody of the animal after its owner was not immediately found.

"The horse is very healthy and appears to have been taken care of," Nelson said.

The horse has been placed in foster care while its owner is sought. If the owner does not come forward, the animal will be permanently placed either with the foster caregiver or in another new home
