The Road to the Horse competition will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the Kentucky Horse Park, in Lexington, Ky., March 15-17. Competitors and spectators will travel to Kentucky from different countries and from across the United States to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the "World Championship of Colt Starting."

In this competition, elite horse trainers aim to create a trusting partnership with an untouched 3-year-old Quarter Horse. The test begins with the selection, choosing only one horse–provided by the Four Sixes Ranch in Guthrie, Texas–from a remuda (the herd of horses from which competitors select their mounts). Competitors then have three days to build a working relationship with their selected horse; on the final day, each competitor must complete an obstacle course before judges name the "Colt Starting World Champion."

Trainers taking part in the 2013 edition include Dan James (AUS), Guy McLean (AUS), Obbie Scholm (USA), and Sarah Winters (USA). Past winners of the Road to the Horse include trainers such as Clinton Anderson (2003 and 2005), Stacy Westfall (2006), Chris Cox (2007, 2008, and 2011), Richard Winters (2009), Craig Cameron (2010), and the team of McLean and James (2012).

Saturday night’s celebration at the Alltech Arena offers Ram tailgate bars and live music , and many well-known trainers will be attending. Past Road to the Horse clinicians returning to join the celebration include Anderson, Cameron, Cox, James, McLean, Westfall, Martin Black, Jonathan Field, Tommy Garland, Mike Kevil, Ken McNabb, Curt Pate, and Glenn Stewart
