The latest Horse Course from the University’s of Kentucky’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and Gluck Equine Research Center (presented by Pfizer Animal Health) is now available for viewing on TheHorse.com.

The presentation, “Equine Parasite Control: Too Much or Too Little?” was led by Martin Nielsen, DVM, PhD, Dipl. EVPC, assistant professor in equine parasitology at the Gluck Equine Research Center. Nielsen presents recent equine parasite-control case studies in an attempt to help horse owners and veterinarians make more informed parasite deworming program decisions.

“In the next hour, I’ll try to take a very practical approach to a lot of the problems and questions we have about equine parasite control,” Nielsen said at the beginning of his lecture. “We’re in a situation where the landscape is changing. The knowledge that we have about the parasites may cause us to change our approach to controlling them, mostly because of all the resistance that we see.

“I’d like to try to guide you through that landscape and at least give you the best evidence-based recommendations that we have now, but also outline the areas where we simply don’t know yet
