Lost in the Fog’s owner, Harry Aleo, told the Sacramento Bee yesterday that the Thoroughbred’s ashes will be buried at Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley, Calif.  A simple monument will memorialize the horse, who was euthanatized in September because of cancer.

The horse’s remains were to be interred at Southern Chase Farm in Florida, where he was raised, but Aleo decided the champion sprinter should stay “where he lived, where he raced and where he died,” he told the paper.

A necropsy report revealed Lost in the Fog’s inoperable tumors were much more extensive than previously thought. Veterinarians were amazed at how the Eclipse-award-winning colt seemed to tolerate the cancer with minimal discomfort
