The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has announced the debut of the Frangible Technology Grant Program. The program will allow organizers of USEF licensed eventing competitions to apply for assistance in the implementation of frangible devices, designed to make the cross-country phase of the sport safer for horse and rider.

In June 2008 the USEF began supplying frangible pins at no cost to organizers of USEF licensed eventing competitions. Over the past four years, at the encouragement of the Fédération Equestre Internationale, a number of new frangible technologies have entered the marketplace. The development of these new products prompted the USEF Eventing Technical Committee to revisit the program. The Committee now feels that organizers should have access to these new technologies and encourages their usage.

Organizers of USEF eventing competitions offering divisions at the Preliminary level and above, and taking place before Nov. 30, 2012, can request a grant by completing a Frangible Technology Grant Program Request. Grants of up to $500.00 or the equivalent in frangible devices will be awarded. The deadline to apply for the 2012 competition season is Nov. 1.
