Six Kansas Mares Exposed to CEM

Six mares in south central Kansas are now included in the investigation into contagious equine metritis (CEM) that spans 28 states, according to a report by The Hutchinson News.  

Kansas Livestock Commissioner George Teagarden told The Hutchinson News his agency had contacted the mares' owners. According to the report, these mares are linked back to the three infected stallions in Indiana. Four more CEM-positive stallions are in Kentucky.

States that have so far announced CEM exposure:

  • Colorado
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • Oklahoma
  • Texas
  • Virginia
  • Wisconsin
